Building and history
Full steel centerboarder rigged as a sloop, built by amateurs according to the designs of the famous naval architect Gilbert Caroff (hull made by professionals) launched in 2001.
The hull was sandblasted in 2016 by Raiatea Carénage and 3 layers of epoxy primer then 2 layers of polyurethane paint, then at each refit, sanding and 2 layers of antifouling.
Between 2016 and 2023, all the electricity, plumbing, a good part of the fittings, all the navigation electronics, all the running rigging, part of the standing rigging as well as the saddlery have been redone. The owner has prepared the ship for a world trip.
Arrived in Polynesia in 2010, the boat has since then only sailed in Polynesia between the islands.
The Chatam Extreme is an extremely sturdy and comfortable cruising yacht, both at anchor (1.90 m headroom and very well ventilated) and while sailing (double-rudder hull with sharp chines). As an full centerboarder, she allows access to anchorages isolated from other vessels and sensational, „feet in the water“.
Like all centerboarders, her favorite point of sail is downwind, where her comfort and performance are surprising. As for habitability, the current owner lived on board and carried out a complete refit of the boat between 2016 and 2022, so all the fittings have been „thought out“ for isolation and autonomy for life in the islands.
Extremely well maintained, the boat has been extensively upgraded and equipped for offshore sailing over the years.
The boat is in very good condition inside and out, well equipped to sail and self-sufficient, she is really ready to leave for a transpacific or a round the world trip.
